The aquatic life of the Andaman

Away from the subcontinent, separated by waters of the Bay Of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands have kept themselves safe and secure from any harmful actions of the civilizations of the modern times.



With a wide biodiversity on land as well as water, the Islands have proved to the environment authorities as the land of rich flora and fauna. And hence have earned a designation of “hope spots”. Which is an area of ocean that demands special protection of its unique biodiversity from becoming endangered or extinct.

The Islands have also been designated as a hub of 96 wildlife sanctuaries, 9 national parks and one biosphere alone. It has 31 hope spots to secure its marine life from any interventions, since till now they have been under the supervision of nature and hence all its away life lived for their complete lifespan without any ailments or disease.

Deeper insight into the aquatic creatures • Dugong sea cow – State animal of the Andaman • Whale sharks • Several dolphin like Irrawaddy Dolphin • Devil Manta Ray • Sea Turtles ( four species)

Along with the fauna, there is a huge treasure of corals and flora of the same- • Mangroves • Seagrass • Planktons • Corals

Hence Andaman and Nicobar have proved themselves as one of the most diverse region in respect of biodiversity of the tropical region. It receives a good amount of rainfall and owns the tropical evergreen forests which contribute towards the maintenance of its marine life as well.
