Ross And Smith Island

The twin island group as the name defines are a piece of complete bewilderment due to their unique connecting sandbar that catches the attention of every viewer. The Ross and the Smith Island are situated 300km from the Capital City Port Blair and is also one amongst the not to be missed tourist spot in Andaman. The Islands are a combination of calm and shallow water on one side to whirling and ferocious waters on the other.



The unique feature that holds a strong attraction here is, during high tide the connecting sandbar vanishes and come to the notice of the viewers only during low tide conditions. The scenic sight is so attractive with two lush green islands being connected by the silvery sandbar creating crescent shaped bays at the corners with the landforms surrounded by crystal clear and shimmering green water adding more to the beauty of arena. The tropical forests and the mangroves add more richness to the beauty of the twins.


Due to the presence of these dense tropical forest cover it is more appreciated for the adventurous trekking and trail hiking. The beaches are also known for their Scuba diving and Snorkeling adventures in the crystal green waters where the aquatic life is found to be the most beautiful. Another exotic feature of the Ross and Smith Islands is their inhabitancy of the Olive Ridley Turtles. These species prefer to stay and breed in this favourable habitat. Here many tourists come over to have a close of this species as they are widely found on this island.

Where quiet and shallow waters are present they are found to be adaptable to family groups where kids can have a nice time enjoying swimming in the waters without any fear, whereas on the other side the high waves create a perfect scenario for the Kayaking sport.


Facilities…

Ross and Smith Islands provide easy and appreciating accommodation facilities. Where reaching the island can be a little issue as no public boats can be hired for this. One can opt for the fisherman’s boats where the halt at Diglipur is definite.

Time Bar: 6 am – 2 pm ( all days except Sunday )

Boat Charges: Rs. 2000 for 6 persons

Entry Fee: Rs. 50 for Indians, Rs. 25 for Child & Rs. 500 for Foreigners
